Origin and Method
The Accademia Italiana Shiatsu Do was established in Milan in 1985 by experienced shiatsu operators and instructors. From the outset, the goal was straightforward: to teach shiatsu through a didactic method that is both effective and accessible — rigorous in its respect for Japanese tradition, yet designed for Western learning dynamics.
The Shiatsu Do method is built around the practice of kata — codified sequences of treatment that guide the student step by step. This structured approach allows learners at every stage to build confidence through repetition, refining touch and technique before moving to more complex interventions.
How the Academy Arrived in Florence
Through the 1990s, the academy expanded beyond Milan, and the Florence branch at Via Ferdinando Martini 4/a in the Coverciano district became an independent centre of its own. Today it operates as one of the most established shiatsu schools in Tuscany, recognised by APOS (Associazione Professionale Operatori Shiatsu) and offering programmes from introductory weekends to full professional certification.

Teaching Philosophy
The programmes, techniques and teaching methods of Shiatsu Do value the learning dynamics specific to Western practitioners. Instructors and assistants work alongside students each year, continuing their own progression on the shiatsu path — Shiatsu Do means, literally, "the way of shiatsu." No teacher has finished learning.
All professional courses include access to our secure online platform for supplementary video content, printed materials and kata review sessions — an integration rather than a replacement for hands-on practice.
